Newsletter March 2010

Hello fairy friends!

It's definitely time for a proper newsletter.

Firstly of course is the Peerifool premiere on March 28th. Tickets are selling fast. Here's the link where you can buy them:

We had an extraordinary day with BAFTA winner, Paul Roberts working his magic on the film's sound. The guy's a genius as well as a sweetheart and his subtle additions - a vixen cry here, a blackbird there - all add tremendously to the atmosphere. I put the final sound with the picture at the weekend and was so excited and away with the fairies that I absent-mindedly put a wool cardie in the washing machine on a boil wash and shrunk it! Whoops. And it's still so cold here on Dartmoor, I could have done with that cardie.

The all-girl music ensemble played brilliantly. I chose the pixie-bright piccolo for the porridge fairies. The complete line-up was piccolo, flute, clarinet, oboe, French horn, percussion, bagpipes, fairy flute, harp, cello, celesta and violin. We used a gold sparkly pencil instead of a conductor's baton, just for fun. Here's a photo of us all. (I don't know why I look as if I've got my fingers in my ears, maybe I didn't like what I'd written!)

I'm off to the edit suite in Exeter Phoenix on Friday to cut a trailer for "The Laidley Worm of Spindleston Heugh." Hopefully we'll have a bit of sneak preview footage to show at the Peerifool Premiere.

Our collaboration with Le Centre de l'Imaginaire Arthurien on the movie "Sir Lanval" shoots in nine weeks. Over 250 actors applied to audition for the lead roles. It was really sad having to turn down some of the youngsters who had put so much thought and work into preparing for their audition. If only the story had an entire harem of fairy queens! We are so pleased with the four lead actors. They are all talented, but just as important, they are in tune with what we are trying to do with our fairytale films. There is quite an extraordinary collaboration of artists taking part in both the film and its accompanying exhibition. The facebook group for the project now has 1,651 members! The magic of this ancient fairytale is rippling out far and wide. It's a tale of truth and loyalty, betrayal and deceit, lies and passion. And PIGS (well - just a little cameo role for Sherman and Blossom, our two hairy fat pigs. Sherman the boar looks like an orc. We couldn't resist writing the happy couple into the movie.)

With warmest wishes to all of you. Thank for your continuing support, and looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible on March 28th for the Peerifool premiere.
Hugs and sparkles from
