Newsletter Archive- a fun read for insomniacs and fairies.

Newsletter September 15th 2009

Hello everyone on this fine morning in early Autumn.

Once again, we were incredibly lucky on our film shoot this summer.

In August we shot "The Laidley Worm of Spindleston Heugh"  The volunteer team was fantastic - the generosity of so many individuals quite breathtaking, the intensity of the experience utterly intoxicating. For a week, there was nothing but FAIRY MADNESS: no news, television, or 21st century urban grit, just an immersion in the magic of a fairytale, fabulous food, the extraordinary landscape of Dartmoor, lots of laughter and hugs and crazy crises to overcome (...How DO you move a giant toad about?... What happens when Priddy the beautiful white horse gets camera shy and won't canter in a suitably kingly way, but PLODS?) And of course, the POWER OF CAKE to keep us all going for twelve hours a day. Many thanks to all of you who fed the hungry fairies, either by sponsoring a meal or preparing one.

One little lad loved being an imp so much that he cried when the time came to remove his costume. One of the mums says her bath tub was GREEN that evening. "The best week of my life." was the verdict of more than one of the young people. The girls were transformed as they shed jeans and tee-shirts and put on their corsets and gowns.

There was an enchanting little fairy miracle with the rowan berries. All the farmers are saying that this year the rowan is the brightest and reddest for many years. Rowan is a powerful protection against evil in the indigenous culture of the British Isles, and it comes into the film quite a bit. How lucky that the rowan was so magnificent this year.

Well, I could go on and on, but it's time to have breakfast and start my daily harp practice, and no doubt you all have things to do, so fare thee well, fairies all, until next time. I'll let you know as
soon as the photos from the shoot are up on the website.

Brightest blessings of the Little People to all of our kind friends and supporters.

Love from Elizabeth-Jane xxxx

PS. Auditions for two fairy maidens, age 16-25 coming up on October 9th. Details shortly.

"The Laidley Worm of Spindleston Heugh" was supported by a £500 Arts
Grant from West Devon Borough Council.

Newsletter 24th June 2009

Hello everyone.

I hope you're having a great International Fairy Day (Yes - June 24th really is International Fairy Day)

The Cherry DVDs have gone off for duplication - all madly exciting.
On 12th July as part of the Chagford Arts Festival there will be a screening of Cherry of Zennor at Jubilee Hall in Chagford, 10.40am.

The screening is FREE, but there'll be a collection afterwards in aid of the Chagford Filmmaking Group.

The Cherry DVD will be on sale for £8. We need to sell 500 copies!

Alex has made a fab 23 minute movie of "behind the scenes" which is a bonus EXTRA on the DVD - just like a real grown-up DVD!

DO get there ten minutes early at 10.30 to support the premiere screening of an animated film by two local lads.

After the Cherry screening there is a picnic party at Millpond. If you like the sound of that, bring your own picnic and come and enjoy the lovely gardens and a swim in the lake.

And here's something dear to my heart:
On the Saturday evening 11th July as part of the festival, there is a screening of "Sunrise" This astonishing 1927 silent movie is one of the most revered films of all time. If you are even the teeniest bit interested in film, you will be astounded by the beauty of the photography and the fluid camera movements, the sheer brilliance of the visual story-telling. It's rated by Sight and Sound Magazine as one of the TOP TEN FILMS OF ALL TIME. I've composed a solo harp score for the film and will be introducing it and providing the live accompaniment on my golden harp. There's an open air screening later of short films outside Blacks Deli, so we can all sit out under the stars, and drink coffee and eat yummy things - all in all a great reason to come to Chagford for the WHOLE WEEKEND.

All fairy sparkles and goblin giggles to you.
